Art Appreciation CoordinatorRecruits and coordinates classroom volunteers, arranges and publicizes training sessions.
Bates Beat EditorSends monthly reminders to contributors, formats material, prints, and distributes the school’s monthly newsletter.
Bates Handbook EditorWorks with PTO Presidents and Principal to update and publish the Bates Handbook in June of current year. Handbook is printed for distribution with summer mailing (August).
Bates Directory Editor
Collates data for the Bates Directory including listing all families, addresses, and emails for late September distribution.
Book Fair Coordinators
Volunteers help set up and break down Book Fair displays, assists students during their scheduled class visits during school hours and after-school hours.
Boxtops for Education Coordinator
Coordinates the collection of boxtops for refund at end of year. Writes reminders for Bates Beat during the year as well.
Classroom Volunteer Coordinators
Parents supplement the science curriculum by conducting small groups of students on nature walks. Training is required for some of these outdoor classrooms sessions by professionals.
Creative Arts Chairpersons
Works with committee, teachers, and other building staff to preview and arrange for cultural and academic enrichment programs to be presented at Bates and attends monthly meeting of town-wide creative arts council. Prior experience as Creative Arts volunteer recommended.
Diversity Committee
Enrichment Coordinators
Works with Faculty Enrichment Committee and Principal on an as needed basis on enrichment events like Artstravaganza.
Environmental Aide Coordinators
Recruits and coordinates classroom liaisons who lead groups on nature walks around Bates and greater Wellesley up to three times a year. Prepares training materials for distribution (content is all set) for classroom volunteers. This program is a substantial enhancement to class curriculum.
Family Friends Coordinator
Arranges host families for Bates METCO students; serves as a liaison to the METCO program.
Family Programs Coordinators
Develops and organizes social activities for the Bates community (ski trip, movie and Bingo night, family dances, and year-end picnic).
Field Day Coordinators
Works with physical education teacher on June Field Day activties (organizes volunteers, buys supplies, etc.)
5th Grade Student Council Coordinators
Helps organize charity and community service efforts of fifth-grade students. Meets with students during school hours.
Garden Club
Organizes volunteer gardening crews as necessary; coordinates plantings on school grounds.
Gift Coordinator
Works with PTO Presidents to coordinate the purchase of special gifts (eg. Teacher retirement or new baby).
Gift Wrap Coordinators
Coordinates annual fall giftwrap and apparel fundraisers.
Health Coordinator
Recruits volunteers, and with school nurse, coordinates school opening and post vacation head lice checks.
HospitalityRecruits volunteers and coordinates refreshments for PTO sponsored events (teacher appreciation luncheons, PTO meetings, K orientation, New Families coffee, etc).
Kinderkick CoordinatorsWorks with Wellesley United Soccer Club to coordinate spring sessions for Bates kindergartners, distributes information to K parents in the spring, organizes teams, and informs coaches about training sessions. No soccer experience needed.
Library Aide/Guided Reading Library CoordinatorWorks with Librarian to coordinate volunteer’s schedule and assists in maintaining Guided Reading Library. Some data entry and re-shelving of books when required.
New Families Coordinators
Plans welcome coffee in August for new families; provides information about Bates and children’s activities in Wellesley; pairs new families with existing families throughout the year; works with secretary during the year to update family list.
PAC RepresentativeRepresents the needs of special needs students by attending town-wide PAC Council meetings and keeps parents informed of relevant local and state policies.
Playground Coordinator
Works with the town on inspection and maintenance of Bates playground structures, coordinates purchase and installation of new equipment.
POPS (Parents of Performing Students) RepresentativeHelps music, orchestra, band and choral faculty with school assemblies, Music in Our Schools Week and Step-Up Concerts. POPS representatives also write periodic updates for the school newsletter regarding All Town Orchestra and All Town Band rehearsals and concerts.
Publicity Coordinator
Reports on Bates events and/or programs by submitting articles and photos to the Townsman every 8 weeks and maintains a scrapbook.
Publishing Center CoordinatorTrains and schedules volunteers for "publishing" student literary work for display and special presentations in the classrooms.
Pumpkin Fair Coordinators
Assists current Pumpkin Fair co-chairs for 2008 Pumpkin Fair. Runs Pumpkin Fair in October 2009.
Room Parent CoordinatorRecruits and coordinates room parents for each class; hosts orientation coffee in early September.
School Picture Day CoordinatorsContracts with school photographer and communicates with them before picture day. Recruits volunteers and oversees actual event and retakes.
Technology/Web Site CoordinatorWorks with Principal and PTO members on special projects requiring technology and the web site for Bates.
UNICEF
Distributes UNICEF Collection materials; collects, counts and deposits monies collected during the Halloween UNICEF drive.
Volunteer Coordinators
Distributes volunteer sheets in Spring and late Summer (with summer mailing); compiles volunteer lists and distributes to appropriate committee chairs.
Wellesley Parade CoordinatorsRecruits Bates parents and students to participate in the building of a float and walking in the Wellesley Parade in May.
World of Wellesley (WOW) RepresentativeWorks with WOW town-wide coordinator and Bates Principal to distribute and collect information.
Yearbook EditorsEditors layout pages for yearbook using yearbook computer software tools. Classroom yearbook representatives gather images for pages. Editors work closely with classroom yearbook representatives. Best suited for those comfortable with computer graphic tools. 20 hours in mid-spring.
