Our Mission
To deliver high quality, engaging educational programs that complement and enrich the Wellesley elementary school curriculum by providing incremental learning opportunities for all students across all disciplines, including literacy, social studies, science, math, music and art.
Who We Are
Creative Arts and Sciences is a committee of parent volunteers that works with the Bates faculty to bring artists, writers and scientists to the students and teachers of Bates School.
What We Do
Working closely with the Bates faculty and Principal, the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee plans and implements programs that complement the curriculum at each grade level.
We offer two types of programs:
(a) large programs that are presented in an all-school assembly format in order to maximize their benefit
(b) smaller programs that typically target one or a few grade levels and provide Bates students and faculty the opportunity for focused learning in a classroom environment.
In the past academic year, the Creative Arts and Sciences Committee brought more than 30 programs to Bates, and each grade enjoyed 8-9 programs.

So Many Benefits
Students are engaged in different ways than their everyday classroom experience. This is especially valuable to support students with diverse learning styles. Students learn to appreciate various art forms, gain a deeper understanding of their subject matter, and receive exposure to different world cultures through these programs.
Teachers have an opportunity to bring an extra dimension to their specific classroom needs and interests through Creative Arts and Sciences. For example, many teachers have enjoyed the opportunity to bring the authors of books their students are reading to the classroom or to the school as a whole. The Committee is always open to new ideas and opportunities to support the Bates faculty and to enrich the academic learning goals.
Parents can attend any all-school Creative Arts and Sciences program, and share the learning experience with their children. Parents can be confident that the strong Bates faculty and curriculum are supported with a rich array of supplemental learning experiences for their children.
